This Pheasant Tail Soft Hackle Fly pattern imitates a number of mayfly species, depending on the size of hook used and can also be used to imitate some stonefly species. If you are fishing wet flies, this pattern can be used spring and summer all when the hatches are most prevalent. During the winter months it can be used with a smaller hook size. Fishing this pattern will yield results more often than not and when the "match to the hatch" is presenting a challenge. To best fish this fly, as with most wet fly patterns, cast this fly across stream, or in fractions downstream letting the fly swing with the current as close to as many of the prime lies as possible.
