Light Cahill - Wet

This Light Cahill Wet Fly pattern imitates a large array of mayflies depending on the size of hook used. It most commonly imitates the Heptageniidae family of mayfly.   The credit for the Light Cahill dry pattern this is given to Daniel Cahill, who developed this pattern in the 1880’s. The Light Cahill pattern’s ability to get action over large geographical regions and river habitats makes it an essential component to any angler’s collection. Fish this fly in the early part of the season, but try it when you are getting no action at any time during the season, you will be pleasantly surprised. Fish this pattern around mid-day and as late as mid-afternoon.

This Light Cahill Wet Fly pattern can imitate mayflies that have failed to emerge through the surface of the stream, or have drowned while their wings were drying. In completing its deception, this pattern also imitates the spent mayfly at the end of its life cycle. To best fish this fly, as with most wet fly patterns, cast this fly across stream, or in fractions downstream letting the fly swing with the current as close to as many of the prime lies as possible. This Light Cahill Wet Fly pattern can be fished a number of ways. As an attractor or prospector fly it is very versatile. Fish this fly as a dropper under a buoyant dry or Terrestrial and you will see action.
