Ant Hard Body - Black

This Black Ant pattern represents widespread and common black ant (s) found in and around most rivers, streams or lakes, especially those that are heavily wood lined. Black Ants are common in range and size.

This terrestrial is an essential addition to your collection and can be fished throughout the entire season. In the earlier part of the season, when the flora is sprouting new foliage and has sweeter sap, ants will be looking for Aphids. Ants are commonly found in trees harvesting aphid honeydew. Where there are overhangs they will invariably fall to the water below. Fishing this pattern on a slow drift, with very little action, under overhanging branches is extremely effective.

During the summer months this pattern is very productive at the beginning of ant swarms, when large numbers of the natural form have not yet fallen. In the days that follow these summer swarms, and the trout have become accustomed to this food source, this pattern is a must have.
