Mosquito (Grey)

This Mosquito Grey pattern is an essential all season pattern. This Mosquito Grey pattern imitates an abundant and prolific food source for Trout the world over. Found on almost all bodies of water and aquatic habitats, the larvae and the adults are sought out all season by Trout. There are many different species of Mosquito, but they all have two wings. Mosquitoes belong to the order, Diptera, which means “true fly”.

The Mosquito has two wings which have scales unlike other flies. The good news for all anglers is that the Mosquito can live for up to 30 days after emerging, making it an abundant and consistently available source of food for the trout all season. Fish this pattern at dusk and it will work particularly well in the shade, under overhanging limbs of trees. Fish this Mosquito pattern into the end of the run into slower eddies or pools. You will get action from the pickiest of trout with this Mosquito Grey pattern.

When fishing any dry fly pattern, matching the color and the size to the hatch are critical.   Often overlooked is the casting of shadow from your leader, which may lead to spooked fish.   We suggest selecting a high float leader. Additional waterproofing can be given to your fly delaying it becoming waterlogged, by applying a flotant product such as Gink ®.

All flies are tied with American sourced materials including Hareline Dubbin Materials and Whiting Farm's Hackles & Capes and are tied on premium hooks.
