Tup's Indespensible

This Tup’s Indispensable pattern is an all season pattern. This classic Tup’s Indispensable pattern is effectively used when trout are feeding on paler midge or mayflies. Depending on the water you are fishing, fish this pattern as you would fish it as to the food it is imitating, either midge or mayfly. Credit is given to R.S. Austin who first tied this pattern in the late 1890’s in England. A fantastic fact about this pattern is that the word Tup’s came from the farmers who would use die to mark the rams and who in turn would breed with the females and in doing so leave a mark on the females back, the farmers coined the phrase that the females had been “tupped“.

When fishing any dry fly pattern, matching the color and the size to the hatch are critical.   Often overlooked is the casting of shadow from your leader, which may lead to spooked fish.   We suggest selecting a high float leader. Additional waterproofing can be given to your fly delaying it becoming waterlogged, by applying a flotant product such as Gink ®.
