Humpy Red

Humpy Red Dry Fly

This Red Humpy pattern is an all season pattern. The creator of the Yellow Humpy pattern is believed to be Jack Horner in the 1940’s, it has also been called the Goofus Bug in some forms and the Canadian version (no hackle or split wing) the Tom Thumb.

This Red Humpy is a variation, and this pattern floats high on the water due to the manner it is tied and is essential as an attractor pattern, perhaps the most important one in faster waters. Due to its robust composition, it can be fished in the roughest of waters and is clearly visible. In faster waters the trout will have less time to react. Due to the increased buoyancy you can easily fish this pattern with a team of droppers, check your depth on the droppers.

When fishing any dry fly pattern, matching the color and the size to the hatch are critical.   Often overlooked is the casting of shadow from your leader, which may lead to spooked fish.   We suggest selecting a high float leader. Additional waterproofing can be given to your fly delaying it becoming waterlogged, by applying a flotant product such as Gink ®.

All flies are tied with American sourced materials including Hareline Dubbin Materials and Whiting Farm's Hackles & Capes and are tied on premium hooks.
