Pale Evening Dun

Pale Evening Dun

This Pale Evening Dun pattern is a productive pattern from May through July in Eastern climes. This Pale Evening Dun pattern imitates a number of mayflies in the east and west the most common being Ephemerella dorothea dorothea, Ephemerella invaria, Heptagenia elegantula and Ephemerella infrequens. Fish this Pale Evening dun at in the later part of the day, casting toward the banks and into slower water as this is where the nymphs will typically migrate toward to emerge as temperatures rise. Mating occurs in swarms above faster water, riffles and faster runs.

When fishing any dry fly pattern, matching the color and the size to the hatch are critical, with presentation being the finishing touch to this trinity. Often overlooked is the casting of shadow from your leader, which may lead to spooked fish.   We suggest selecting a high float leader. Additional waterproofing can be given to your fly delaying it becoming waterlogged, by applying a flotant product such as Gink ®.
