Serendipity - Red

This Serendipity pattern has its origins in Europe and is called by another name, a “buzzer”, March madness perhaps springs to mind when we hear that sound. This fly can be used throughout the spring and into late fall as it represents midge pupae of various species.

When fishing this fly in a moving body of water it is most effective when fished toward the bottom of the water table, which can be achieved by placing a tiny split shot and indicator. If you choose to fish this pattern in that manner then you will need to clip the dear hair away from the head of the fly.

When fishing this fly in a lake or still pool of water it is most effective when fished toward the top of the water table, which can be achieved by fishing the fly on a floating line, its weight will suspend it in mid water table. A slow retrieve intermittent pausing will represent the natural movements of the pupae as it moves in the water table.
